2010 “Cabinet” John Martin Gallery London UK

“Cabinet” borrows its title from the private retreats of Humanist scholars in the Rennaissance. Subsequently it was the name given to the more elaborate spaces created to house the personal collections of some of the great art patrons from the 16th to 18th Centuries. Though I flinched from the side show wonders implied by a “Cabinet of Curiosities” for many artists the title also offered the possiability of bringing the world of science,mathematics, history as well as marvels from the natural and supernatural world into the scope of the exhibition. However, where this contemporary version differs fundamentally from its historic precedents is that the intellectual focus is with the artist rather than the collector; indeed, from the loose starting point of a single word, the whole shape of the exhibition has evolved through the ideas and suggestions of the participants. John Martin Gallery attended Arte Fiera in January 2011 presenting the work of Farina Alam, Oliver Comerford, Margaret Corcoran, Ado and Cormenius, Hugh Delap, Josh Dorman, Andrew Gifford, Gennadii Gogoliuk, Francis Hamel, Neale Howells, Paddy McCaan, Makiko Nakamura, Uwe Walther & Julian Wild.

2011 “Naqsha” at Koel Gallery Karachi Pakistan recorded the first show in 15 years by the artist in her home town of Karachi Pakistan since her emigration, This is a survey of Alam's work in drawing and photo-etching. Three projects titled “Bomb Hearts” “Sohna Gotta Goddess” and “Ana” plot a visual timeline of works conceived in different mediums.

2013 Unicorn Gallery Karachi Pakistan, hosts“Way back Home,”which traces the various directions and influences of the miniature. Starting with the miniature responding to its immediate environment, and as responsive and interpretative of contemporary society and life, way back home features a large body of work by nine significant miniature artists:

Aisha Rahim, Babar Moghal, Farina Alam, Faysal Asghar, Kiran Saeed, Maryam Khursheed, Mizna Zulfiqar, Raza ur Rehman, Sophia Mairaj -

each, contributing to the genre and tradition of contemporary miniature making - exploring its various possibilities, directions and extending the practice, giving new direction and meaning to the tradition of miniature making. The exhibition serves to create a dialogue between the work and the audience.

2015 Ruth Wilmott Associates exhibit a collection of drawings and prints by Farina Alam from "Rishta," Sona Gota Goddess" and "Ara."

2015 Asia House hosts the completed series of ‘My Kolachi’ in a solo show of drawings by Farina Alam. Drawing with language and visual metaphors, Alam explores the notion of place and how it bears upon Pakistan as a post-colonial nation state. The singular works on paper underline a link between text and image to expose recurring themes of religion, politics and conceptions of identity in her recent work.

2016 The Jerwood Drawing Prize is the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK.

The exhibition will be on display at Jerwood Space, London from 14 September – 23 October 2016, followed by a national tour to The Edge, Bath (4 November – 16 December 2016), Turnpike Arts Centre, Leigh (14 January – 12 March 2017), and The Gallery, Arts University Bournemouth (30 March – 29 April 2017).
